“Real surge” in young road fatalities - Chambers

More young people are losing their lives on Irish roads than any other age group in the country. That’s according to Transport Minister Jack Chambers who was speaking at an EU Road Safety conference in Dublin this morning.

More than twenty thousand people lost their lives on European roads last year. That’s according to the head of the European Commission’s Mobility and Transport Department (DG MOVE).
Magda Kopczynska was speaking at an EU Road Safety Conference in Dublin this morning. The EU wants to halve road deaths and serious injuries by 2030 with the aim of nearly eliminating them by 2050.

Ireland is “heading in the wrong direction” when it comes to safety on our roads. That’s according to Minister Jack Chambers who was speaking at an EU Road Safety conference in Dublin this morning.
The EU wants to halve road deaths and serious injuries by 2030 with the aim of nearly eliminating them by 2050. But according to Minister Chambers, in Ireland we’re “definitely” going in the wrong direction "after many years of progress".

Ireland’s EU Commissioner Mairead McGuinness has been visiting Cork to discuss future EU opportunities for the region and its people. She’s also been finding out about some projects and activities where the EU and Cork are working successfully together towards sustainable economic growth.
The Commissioner attended the “EU for Cork: Unlocking Opportunities for Cork” event yesterday that was held at Cork City hall. Later today, she will deliver the Monahan Lecture at UCC.

Earlier today, the Commissioner addressed the EU for Cork: Unlocking opportunities for Cork event in the City Hall. She'll also visit the Tyndall National Institute to find out more about its work in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and agri-technology. And tomorrow the Commissioner will deliver the Monahan Lecture at UCC.
Earlier today, Commissioner McGuinness heard how EU funding has enabled the BRIDE project in north-east Cork and west Waterford, to explore new ways to preserve and restore lowland intensive farmland.

European degree a “win win” for all

Proposals for a European degree, that would be automatically recognised throughout the bloc, were outlined today by the European Commission. The idea is that the degree would be awarded jointly and on a voluntary basis, by a group of universities across Europe. It would be based on a common set of criteria agreed at a European level.
European Commission Vice-President Margaritis SCHINAS today said the proposed EU degree was a response to the demands from higher education institutions, young people and industry.

EU Agriculture Ministers yesterday discussed the EU’s response to the current problems in the agriculture sector. They looked at recent proposals to reduce the administrative burden on farmers and simplify CAP regulations. European Commission initiatives to strengthen the position of farmers in the food supply chain were also on the agenda.
